A Schoolwide Gingerbread House Craft Experience

A recent Fun Friday event brought winter excitement and creativity to life at High Road School of Fairfield County. Students participated in a schoolwide gingerbread house craft, turning the café into a festive workshop.

Creativity and Skill Building Through a Gingerbread House Craft

Using graham crackers, icing, and colorful candy decorations, students designed and built their own gingerbread houses. The traditional holiday activity provided an opportunity to practice communication, fine motor skills, collaboration, and artistry in a fun, low-pressure environment.

No two houses looked alike. Some students engineered tall, detailed structures with carefully lined rooftops, while others focused on colorful patterns, candy landscaping, and snowy icing walkways.

Staff moved from table to table, offering guidance, encouragement, and celebrating milestones, from a successful icing wall to the final candy chimney.

Teamwork and Joy Across the School Community

What stood out most was the joy and teamwork across all age groups. Older students took pride in helping younger peers, and everyone cheered as houses came to life. The entire building was merry and the sweet smell of cinnamon and candy filled the air.

“Our Fun Friday events are designed to create positive school culture, build social connections, and give students a chance to shine in ways that celebrate their strengths,” said Victoria Williams, assistant school director. “This gingerbread house day did exactly that – bringing our community together and kicking off the holiday season with warmth and creativity. We’re proud of every student’s hard work and can’t wait to see what our next Fun Friday brings!”
