At Philadelphia Continuation Academy, seniors are taking the lead in a meaningful, hands-on service-learning project that supports both their graduation requirements and the emotional well-being of their peers.
The students are designing and delivering social-emotional learning lessons to others during dedicated blocks in April. These peer-led lessons are the result of thoughtful research and planning, empowering our seniors to model leadership, empathy, and collaboration.
In recognition of World Awareness Month, the students are also incorporating sensory activities into their presentations, including demonstrating how to make simple DIY sensory items and explaining how these tools can help individuals self-regulate, focus, and reduce anxiety.
To bring even more creativity and school spirit into the initiative, the seniors are designing custom t-shirts that reflect the themes of inclusion and sensory awareness.
After completing their lessons, students will reflect on their experience through journaling, capturing the impact of teaching and serving others.
