To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Buehrle Academy hosted a special event bringing students together to honor the rich history and culture of Hispanic and Latino communities.

The day was filled with exciting activities including bingo and history trivia, led by social studies teacher Mr. Falcone. As part of the celebration and lesson of the day, students researched and presented on various countries, deepening their understanding and appreciation of Hispanic heritage.

Students and teachers also enjoyed delicious meals highlighting authentic Latin dishes prepared by Gran Sabor Latino Restaurant in Lancaster City. The menu featured empanadas, rice and beans, papas rellenas and sorullitos, offering a true taste of Hispanic cuisine.

Additionally this month, Milzy Carrasco, director of the Department of Neighborhood Engagement for the City of Lancaster and members of the Lancaster Latino community, spoke to students from the Buehrle and Phoenix Academies in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Carrasco shared insights into the history of the Hispanic and Latino communities in Lancaster City. A variety of local Hispanic leaders and first responders, including school district representatives, firefighters, police officers, and artists attended the day. They each provided valuable insights about their careers and discussed their contributions to the community, serving as inspiring role models for the students. The students learned about the importance of recognizing and celebrating Hispanic History and the contributions of Latino leaders in city government.

These events were a wonderful celebration of Hispanic and Latino culture, education, and community!
