Jeff’s a Rockstar

Jeff, always been a rock star! However, within the past month, he has set up and has been the driving force behind LMS. He takes on responsibilities outside of the normal role and has an awesome impact on the students he works with. He is able to effectively handle co-teaching virtual students as well as in person students. Jeffs ability to use therapeutic approach and diffuse situations helps the success of the program. He is the epitome of what High Road expects from their staff. Jeff has stepped up to the plate this month to help carry LMS team. He [...]

Mastering Hybrid Learning

The North Caroline High Team have the hybrid learning mastered! Staff and students are navigating the way through helping students who are learning at home and students who are able to safely be in the building. Mrs. Shontia and Dazzavaion are working hard together on some assignments to wrap up the end of the quarter. Isaiah and Ms. Z are working on a biology assignment. The lesson includes an interactive game on Jamboard, which allows them both to move items around together. Lessons like this keep learning engaging for students who are still working from [...]

New Year – New Goals

As we are wrapping up our memories of Christmas, students are delighted to be back whether in person or on zoom for this new year. Speaking of new things, every program started their very own data chats with their students towards the end of last year. So far, students here at High Road School at Denton Elementary have been responding well to reflecting on aspects such as their “goal level," a highlight of their week, and one thing they could improve on for the week ahead. We also have been effectively keeping track of [...]

Celebrating in Style

While it has been a difficult transition for many students - DES student Jayden is thriving at school. He has been consistent with academics and behavior and celebrates day 50 Blue level. This is the highest level a student can earn in our classroom wide behavior management system. Jayden enjoyed his cake with classmates and also watched a movie with students who were participating in school virtually. Learn more about our school today.

Kennard’s Positive Impact

Kennard has had such a positive impact on the staff and students here on the Eastern Shore. From working with Directors, Teachers, Social Workers, students and even parents – Kennard has helped us all with his insight and training. Kennard has also been jumping in with student zooms and being a supportive ear to parents. Kennard’s presence in the classroom to help problem solve and his energy on the field for the TACT2 training - it has been amazing working alongside Kennard. Kennard immediately felt like part of the team and shares the same passion that the other Eastern Shore [...]

We Couldn’t Do It Without You Ms. Fitzpatrick

Jill is an amazing teacher under any circumstances, but she has really shined under pressure this September. The recent changes in the learning environment have been a big adjustment for our students. After six months out of school, Denton Elementary was one of the first elementary schools in the state to welcome students back for in-person learning on September 8th. Jill is managing a classroom with half of her students learning remotely from home and the other half in the building (not to mention juggling three grade levels). Walking into the classroom on any given day, you would never guess [...]

Congratulations Bridget & Erin

Our February nominees are Bridget (Caroline Innovative Pathways Lead Teacher) and Erin (Caroline Innovative Pathways Assistant Teacher). Bridget and Erin are both new to us this year and together started a new program with flying colors. They are both highly driven to a standard of excellence in the classroom. They completely revamped the room and created a warm learning environment, not only in the physical sense but through true collaboration and partnership with one another. Bridget and Erin have been flexible with learning as they go and innovate when needed. The success at Pathways this year is definitely due to [...]

We’re All Proud Of Eion

At the beginning of the school year Eion was in our High Road classroom full time. He has not only transitioned into one General Education class but at the start of the 3rd quarter he will be going out to his 4th class. He has been able to maintain blue level and held the title of "Wild Cat of The Week" several times throughout the month. The "wild cat" of the week is a PBIS incentive that all of Lockerman Middle School partake in. He is a great role model for his peers and always willing to give a helping [...]

What Would We Do Without Michael?

For the first month of 2020, our High Road Employee of the Month goes to Michael Holland. Michael is in his third year with the program and has become an integral part of each classroom he’s been a part of. He works hard to develop authentic, therapeutic relationships with the students, which has helped foster strong classroom dynamics. This month, Michael has been supremely flexible in helping train new staff members at North Caroline while stepping up as a role model and leader in the Pathways program that is also on that campus. Michael is a great model for new [...]

We Are Proud Of Anthony

This month High Road at DES is super proud to nominate Anthony M. as our student of the month. Anthony is our only student that is out to general education class all day. He checks in with us in High Road in the morning, and we send him on his way with point sheet in hand. He has a steady blue streak and is currently on day twenty-seven. As a fourth-grader, Anthony has excellent grades in his gen. ed. classes, all A’s and B’s. Way to go, Anthony! All of us at High Road are so proud of all he [...]
