The High Road School of Darien rolled out the red carpet for the premiere of Class 2’s original film: “Attack of the Killer Slime”.

Complete with animation, costumes, and soundtrack, the film was the result of months of hard work and creativity. Families and staff gathered to enjoy the debut – popcorn, snacks, and drinks in hand – for the special event.

The idea began with a simple train board set up as a classroom incentive. What started as a playful activity quickly evolved into a full-scale, student-led film project. From storyboarding and scriptwriting to acting and recording, the students were involved in every stage of production.

Under the guidance of their teacher, Peter LeGrand, and with help from a parent volunteer who mentored the class through the editing process, students also learned the technical side of filmmaking – gaining hands-on experience with video production and post-editing techniques.

“We never planned this as a formal curriculum project, but it organically fit right into our region’s theme this year: Teach, Love, Inspire,” said Jolene Delaney, M.Ed., director of the High Road School of Darien. “It was a beautiful reflection of that mission.”

Students in Class 2 made incredible strides this year. The premiere was a celebration not just of a movie, but of student growth, collaboration, and creativity.

“This project is a perfect reminder of what students can achieve when they’re empowered to dream big and think outside the box,” Delaney said.
