Simon began his journey at Sierra School’s at Wylie’s Hope program in October 2024. Initially, he preferred to work alone, and his interactions with peers were often negative. However, over the course of 13 weeks in the Hope program, Simon learned to engage with his classmates in a more positive manner and started to socialize more.
During his time in the Hope classroom, Simon formed a meaningful connection with his teachers. Simon learned to accept help from his teachers, especially when he faced challenges. Simon became more comfortable asking for help and accepting mistakes when they were made.
Additionally, Simon learned to manage his emotions effectively. When he felt angry or upset, he practiced using his words to express his feelings, ensuring a safe environment for himself and others. Simon demonstrated his love for learning through his active engagement in the classroom.
In the final six weeks of his time in the Hope program, Simon successfully transitioned into a 2nd-grade classroom at Birmingham Elementary, supported by two exceptional teachers. During this transition, he applied the skills he had acquired in the Hope program, showcasing his growth and adaptability.
Simon truly exemplifies the qualities of a CASE student, embodying the skills necessary for success.
