Scoring Big In Math

Need ideas for getting your middle school students excited for math class? Ask our High Road School at Lockerman Middle School lead teacher, Joey! Mr. Joey's math lessons have been a fun way for students to learn and practice solving equations. Check out this picture recently captured during one of Mr. Joey's "Solve That Equation!" math lesson! In the photo, you can see Mr. Joey leading "Solve That Equation!" with our engaged High Road 8th graders at Lockerman Middle School. In short, students solve equations independently to score points and then shoot a ball into a basket or try [...]

Learn more about our school today. March is off to a great start at Sandy Hill Elementary! We have learned how to manage our emotions using our coping strategies and “worry buddies," which students had so much fun making (thank you Ms. Taylor). Students will continue to focus on developing their social and emotional regulation skills as the year progresses.

Community-Based Learning: Grocery Shopping

Because learning doesn't only happen within the four walls of the school, High Road School of Southern York is committed to providing community-based instruction opportunities to our students of transition age. Our students had the opportunity to put their hard work and learning into action as they shopped for ingredients needed to make their own lunches. Students planned the meal, made the grocery list, budgeted, shopped and prepared their meals. The results were tasty!

Meet Miles!

High Road School of Southern York had a very special visitor, Miles, a Siberian Husky and his handler! Students had the opportunity to meet Miles one on one and spend time asking questions, petting, reading and enjoying his company! We are excited to be able to offer this experience to our students on a regular basis. We can't wait for Miles to visit again!

Special Education Teachers at Graham Academy Featured, Share Pandemic Experiences

Two special education teachers at Graham Academy were featured on FOX 56 WOLF. Both Olivia Caraballo and Amanda Beck graduated from Wilkes University last spring. Not only did they walk into a new classroom and profession, but they found themselves in an entirely new world when coronavirus hit. The Graham Academy is a special education school that focuses on elementary students with autism and behavioral challenges. "Special Ed is already so different than what you would do in a normal classroom, so it's really adapting to what they need and also keeping them safe," Caraballo said. "It is difficult with this [...]

Learning To Count Change

Students were practicing with our play money on learning the skill of how to count change back to a customer. This was a hands-on lesson that was a lot of fun and the class seemed to catch on quickly. Handling money is a vital life skill that all students will need to be proficient in before entering the workforce.
