Successful Transitioning: Derek’s Story

Jon Dohner is proud of how his son, Derek, successfully transitioned to the workforce – thanks to the robust transition skills programming offered by Sierra Schools. “Sierra really helped prepare Derek for his adult life. They helped build his confidence, and his ability to be more comfortable around people,” he says. Derek participated in the transition skills program at a Sierra Schools program in California. Sabrina Rises To The Challenge

Sabrina seamlessly took on the lead role at Snow Hill High School in the teacher's absence during November and December. She did so with incredible organization, confidence, patience and skill. Sabrina is always professional, caring, and honest. She treats her coworkers and students with patience and respect. Sabrina rose to the challenge of leading the SHHS classroom while the teacher was out and showed her responsibility, willingness to be a team player, and amazing organizational skills while working remotely. In December, High Road School of Massachusetts staff chose Tynan as our student of the month! Tynan took on a mentor role with a student from another class, welcoming him to High Road and spending his lunches getting to know our new student. While it has been a difficult transition for many students - DES student Jayden is thriving at school. He has been consistent with academics and behavior and celebrates day 50 Blue level. This is the highest level a student can earn in our classroom wide behavior management system.
