Students in Hamden’s in-district classrooms learned about why we wear pink in October. All week we wore pink to bring awareness to the disease and raised funds to help with research, prevention, and treatment. We also learned that in 1992 the pink ribbon officially became the symbol for Breast Cancer Awareness, so for art we decorated ribbons to hang in the school to honor and support those fighting breast cancer. Across our three classrooms, students raised over $50 in donations. All of the funds raised in our pink pumpkin buckets will be donated to the Smilow Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, CT.
