Our class pets in Academic 3 quickly outgrew their indoor habitat and expanded their reach to all corners of the school. While we enjoyed coming into the chirps of nature every morning, our entomologist-in-training determined that it was time to let the crickets and grasshoppers experience life on the outside. Below is a summary of their release:
“On a chilly September morn, a young man in a face mask faces the challenge of setting his cricket family free. We walked out into the dew-covered grass and opened the lids. With a soft voice the young man says, “Be good Fred, and you too Slick”. He pauses to watch his family adjust to their familiar environment then slowly turns and goes back inside. He turns to his TA and says, “I bet we can get a new family of crickets soon!”
