Shortly before the COVID-19 closure, directors from a number of SESI schools throughout the country were certified in Ukeru, a trauma-informed approach to understanding and responding to behavior. Through a combination of sensory-integration techniques, an emphasis on creating a comforting environment, enhanced staff education, and using blocking techniques with soft pads in lieu of physical restraint, High Road School of Wright City’s goal in becoming an Ukeru-certified school is to minimize traumatic stress for both our students and our staff.
