This December, the students at BEST Academy grew excited for the holidays as they worked on numerous projects. In art class, the students had fun decorating paper Christmas trees with stickers and created gingerbread cookie ornaments for their loved ones.

Our Speech Pathologist, Ms. Turdean and our Occupational Therapist, Mrs. Mele, collaborated on a fun holiday project with our students. Applying their fine motor skills and imagination, the students constructed their very own snowmen out of jumbo marshmallows and various candies, using problem-solving and practical thinking to determine which candies would serve their snowmen best (for example, a Twizzler scarf!). The students were able to simultaneously practice fine motor skills and social skills, working carefully with their hands while also practicing conversation, and taking turns with their materials. This project also gave students the opportunity to explore their senses…including taste!
