Every Wednesday, Ms. Erin’s middle school class participates in a cooking class. The cooking class covers recipes that are fun and easy for everyday eating to recipes for holidays or special occasions. However, once a month, the students are exposed to different culturally diverse foods in connection with the classroom’s use of a Universal Yum Box.
The cooking class also includes practice of life skills, such as, how to use different kitchen utensils and appliances, kitchen safety, and how to properly clean up. Other life skills include, following directions, taking turns, and working together. The student’s also get to practice their math and reading skills by taking measurements of the ingredients and by reading the recipes.
